Star Wars Episode IV in ASCii
Posted February 16th, 2009 by sclathrop
My friend Ryan Woolley stumbled across this site and posted it on Facebook. I loved it so much I had to share it: Apparently there is someone in the Netherlands with way too much time on their hands! They have re-created the movie Stars Wars completely in ACSII text graphics.
They've done a great job, too!
To watch it you need to connect using a Telnet client. For Microsoft Windows users:
- Go to Start > Run.
- In the Run box, type "cmd" ( without the quotes ) and hit OK to open the command prompt window.
- Within command prompt, type "telnet towel.blinkenlights.nl" and press Enter.
- To exit the connection, hold type CTRL+] and then type "quit" and press Enter.
- To close the command prompt, type "exit" and press Enter.
For Macintosh OS X users:
- Open up the Terminal application found in the Utilities folder under Applications.
- Type in "telnet towel.blinkenlights.nl 23" ( without the quotes ) and press Enter.
- To exit the connection, hold type CTRL+] and then type "quit" and press Enter.
I'll have to agree with Ryan, who I quote: "Another example of why I'm better off with limited free time." Amen!
